Travel light with a baby: our summer essentials

Summer is the perfect season to go on a family getaway. But when traveling with a baby, bags can quickly overflow! At Deux par deux, we truly believe it’s possible to travel light with a baby in the summer—without compromising on comfort or style. Here are our go-to essentials for stress-free vacation planning.

A well-designed diaper bag

Start with a lightweight and organized diaper bag. It will be your best ally for storing diapers, wipes, spare clothes, and small toys in a well-compartmented space. Choose one that's easy to carry, especially if you plan to walk a lot or use public transportation.

Pro tip: slip a small health kit inside with baby essentials (thermometer, saline solution, band-aids, baby sunscreen). It’s compact but super handy when needed!

Light and layerable clothing

You don’t need to overpack—just bring a few well-chosen items. Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton and think in layers to adapt baby’s outfit to the weather.

For baby boys, check out our selection of baby boy t-shirts, tops and bodysuits, shorts, and lightweight pants and shorts.

For baby girls, we recommend our tunics, pants, and pants and shorts collection. All are comfy, easy to wash, and space-saving.

Don’t forget to pack a light cardigan or jacket for cooler evenings—especially near the sea or in the mountains.

Outfits for hot weather

In summertime, it’s essential to protect baby without overheating them. Our article How to dress your baby in the summer heat offers smart tips on fabric choices, sun protection, and what to avoid.

Also pack:

  • A wide-brimmed sunhat
  • A summer sleeping bag
  • A multipurpose blanket (for beach time, diaper changes, or naps)

And of course, always keep a bottle of water or a ready-to-go bottle nearby to stay well hydrated.

A pair of breathable baby shoes and a packable changing mat can also come in handy during outdoor adventures. The more compact, the better!

If you're heading somewhere particularly sunny, consider adding a UV-protective swimsuit or rash guard to your list. It will save you space and time applying sunscreen while keeping your little one protected.

Space-saving tricks

To avoid overpacking, think minimal: a bodysuit can double as a top, leggings can replace pants, and a large muslin cloth can serve as a towel, sunshade, or bib.

Plan 2 to 3 outfits per day depending on your baby’s age and your laundry access. Staying with friends or booking an Airbnb? Great—you can wash as you go and lighten your load.

Bonus tip: roll clothes instead of folding them. You’ll save space in your suitcase!

You can also use compression bags or small packing cubes to organize baby’s clothing by category—this makes changing quick and easy.
